Availability

Location
Located on the outskirts of Burwash, East Sussex in an elevated position overlooking the rother valley. Approximately one mile from Stonegate Train Station for excellent links from London and the wider area.
Access times
Access to the site for your event will run from 9am on the morning before, until 1pm on the day following your event.
So for a typical Saturday event, you will have access from Friday morning (9am) to Sunday afternoon (1pm).
Extensions may be agreed with staff, subject to availability and additional costs.
Bar and licensing
Barley Rise Barn does not have a license to sell alcohol. If you wish to sell Alcohol at the bar for your event, you may apply for a Temporary Events Notice (tens). Please see the link for further information:

You and your guests are welcome to bring your own alcohol and we do not charge corkage.
Please drink responsibly!
Catering
We do not arrange catering. We leave this up to our guests to organise, which will help cut your costs.
We have plenty of friendly, professional and trusted affiliates who we can recommend to you if you want some ideas.
Caterers must liaise with us to ensure they have sufficient space and power, etc. A catering tent is not provided and will need to be hired if needed
Crockery, cutlery and glasses
Unfortunately we don’t provide these for events. However, we will always help when we can and have many great contacts who can supply these extras.
Decoration
Whilst we’re situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty we’re also a complete blank canvas for your imagination and are more than happy to help out with ideas and options!
Flooring
Astro turf for the entire barn area is included in the hire price if you require or you are welcome to source your own flooring if you wish.
External hire
Hiring of items outside of the Barley Rise Barns portfolio must be agreed with the proprietors prior to arrival.
Fireworks and Chinese lanterns
We don’t allow Chinese lanterns as they are a hazard to animals, neighbouring farmers and are generally frowned upon in the rural community.
Fireworks can cause upset with our close residents so we kindly ask you not to have them.
Heaters and heating
We do not have heaters for the barn
N.B. All external heater hire should be discussed with a member of staff.
Toilets
There are no on site toilets but portaloos can be hired from us, as a guide we recommend two portaloos for 0-80 guests Cost per toilet £110, disabled toilet £150. Or you are welcome to organize your own hire.
Music
The venue has a strict music shut off curfew of 11pm. We do not allow any music in the barn after 11pm and will shut down the music at that time. We expect you, your band or DJ to adhere to that. Due to licencing and neighbours we cannot have music past that time.
Number of guests
Our maximum capacity is 80 guests.
Office hours
Office hours are between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
Please contact to arrange a viewing of the barn and field.
Transport
We can accommodate up to 50 cars in an adjacent field. In the event of wet weather we do advise the use of plastic gateway matting to help your guests in and out of the field, this can be hired from us, guide price £200.
We encourage car sharing where possible, Stonegate Train station is close by with great links from London. We can recommend several local taxi and minibus companies to transport your guests to the venue.
Pets
Dogs are allowed if expressly agreed by the management
Tidying up
You are responsible for the clear up following your wedding reception
It is always a good idea to ask friends and family to assist you throughout your event.
We love our beautiful farm and surroundings so please help us look after it.
Water and Electric
Water and electric are included in the price, however we reserve the right to charge you for any excessive use.
Extras
We have an optional stage area, children corner where you can add your chosen toys to keep them entertained and a bar table if required.
We will be on hand to help set up and organise all things hired and paid for prior to your arrival.
How to make a booking
If you’ve decided that Barley Rise Barn is the perfect place for your wedding reception or other celebration please contact us to ensure your date is available. We will then require a holding deposit. You can hold a date for up to 28 days via a holding deposit. The holding deposit is £250.00 and is non-refundable. To secure your booking we then require payment of £1000.00 as a deposit minus the holding deposit if already paid.
Important: Bookings are NOT secured and confirmed until this deposit has been received! This sum is non-refundable. A further 50% of the total balance is payable 4 months before the date of your event. Final balance is payable 28 days before the date of your event.
The final balance is the total cost of the booking plus any extras.
Payment methods
Payment can be made by cheque, cash, or BACS transfer.
Cancellation & refunds
If, regrettably, you need to cancel your booking, we require 12 weeks’ notice.
All deposits are non-refundable.
Final payments are only refundable if received within the appropriate notice period.
